- Before Rys could even perform a song
The fight with the hounds came along
Vale was first to enter the fray
And into the big hound he did lay
Rys stepped up quick with a nice little trick
And after a brief spell, faerie fire did lick
At the hounds that came to surround
Us with their frightening howling sounds
Selene let out a call to inform us all
That she would protect us within the walls
Of her tiny hut, but then soon grasped
The hut would take a whole minute to cast
Instead she fell back from the hounds attack
And shone dancing lights into the black
Fenn sent forth Miguel and Coco
And both of them tried to poke-o
One of the hounds, but only Coco's spear found
Its way into a snarling hound
Liquid smoke poured out its wounded side
The big hound howled, making us want to hide
Will hit a hound with a bursting shot
But her second arrow hit diddly-squat
Hoj swung his long sword and smited divine
And we witnessed an evaporating canine
The hounds attacked and we defended well
Miguel was bitten, but was not felled
Fenn was delighted and shouted, agog,
"Shouldn't have sent bone people to attack dogs"
Mugs, fast and sneaky, scored two direct hits
Juniper turned dire wolf and then went and bit
Lyrad used hunter's sense to discern
That these were some dogs and she'd wasted her turn
Three more hounds appeared at our group's rear
And Vale felled another hound he was standing near
Rys ran from the new dogs and put one to sleep
But man those canines had him creeped
Selene followed Rys and then she turned
And attempted to make one hound burn
One shot, two shots, each went astray
But the third one hit her prey
She also opted to move her lights,
Much to the new hounds' delight
And much to poor Lyrad's dismay
For now no light kept the hounds at bay
Fenn opted to cast a spell
On to the mutt who had fell
Asleep already during the fight
He enfeebled it with all his might
Another howl from the big hound
Carried fear within its sound
And Will and Mugs now shivered in fright
That awful things loomed out in the night
Will climbed a wall and shot a dog
Through the distance and war's fog
And struck it twice in a row
And so slayed it with her long bow
Next Hoj ran to Lyrad's side
But found the dogs had gone to hide
In the darkness so he choose
To wait until his chance arose
Then the hounds struck at Lyrad
But she wasn't hurt too bad
One struck at Hoj and he fought back
And wounded the hound with his attack
Mugs rushed at one of the pups
And with her rapier, chopped it up
Then Juniper rushed in to bite
But luck wasn't with her this night
Lyrad, clutching at her wounds
Had a dog ensnared quite soon
Then Vale rushed in beside her
And struck out at another cur
Rys once again lit up
With faerie fire all the pups
He also cast a healing spell
On Lyrad to help her get well
Selene used a chilling touch
And Fenn's earthen grass looked rather much
More like a set of zombie hands
Than some grasping grassy strands
The large hound came back again
And snapped at his sleeping friend
To wake him up from nap
And then Vale he attacked
Vale received two bites from the mutt
And was knocked down on his butt
Then Will ran over and shot the hound
And was able to bring him down
Hoj killed a hound and then healed Vale
And then he managed to impale
Another mutt and set it alight
Then it struck back with all its might
And knocked Hoj down onto the ground
Then Mugs killed the rest of the pound
She ran over and offed one dog
Then smote another after a brief jog
And with that feat, the battle was done
In all, I'd say, we had some fun
But now it was time to get some rest
But first everyone did their best
To search the ruins if they contained
Anything that would help explain
Why Saladbar had it in his plans
But found nothing else in this land
Vale felt the portal was from Shadow Fell
And that place is a lot like hell
We weren't excited to face those forces
But then we realized we'd lost the horses!
We found a couple milling 'round
But one was dead upon the ground
And as for the rest we had no clue
We guessed our riding days were through
We made camp in the tiny hut
But before all of our eyes were shut
Rys regaled the group with a great song
And then off to bed before too long
Except for Hoj who took watch
Which, normally, he doesn't botch
But on this night something occurred
And this bard struggles to find the words
To describe these troubling events
That happened underneath our tent
Hoj heard some noises, far, FAR away
That must have caused him some dismay
It sounded like horses under attack
And so Hoj decided he should act
Somehow in his addled state
He thought that it might be great
To call the horses back to us
But what he did made a great fuss
He figured he would wake a bard
Who'd had a day that was very hard
He'd cast faerie fire to and fro
And sleep at third level, don't you know?
"We must save the horses!" Hoj declared
But the rest of the party did not care
There were dark and wispy things out there
The kind that give heroes nightmares
We figured the horses good as dead
It was better for us to rest our heads
But Hoj was insistent on his plan
And that is when he laid his hands
Upon Rys' Sid Vicious' Mockarina
Touch a bard's stuff and he will bean ya
But Rys is gentle in his demeanor
And chose not to take Hoj to the cleaners
Instead Rys offered Hoj a bell
Rather than telling Hoj to go to hell
"Go ring that outside if you want"
It seemed great way to a detente
But Hoj ignored Rys kindly pleas
And resorted to brutal thievery
He wrenched the 'rina from Rys' grasp
Causing the poor bard to gasp
"Unhand my treasured instrument!"
But wicked Hoj did not relent
Hoj raised the 'rina to his lips
But Mugs slipped it from Hoj's grip
And mercifully reunited Rys
With his favorite music piece
And Vale, tired of all the noise
Cast silence on the whole convoy
Hoj went to storm out of the tent
But then finally had to relent
Because of the webbing Juniper placed
All around outside the place
He flopped down to pout in his bed
Not waking Lyrad before he resting his head
Lyrad, trusty and solid as a rock
Woke up without her alarm clock
And kept watch until the hut went away
Before we hoped to start our day
We soon broke camp and headed west
All of us doing our very best
To ignore the wispy creatures who
Were following us the whole morning through
