Rys: Plays “Greensleeves” on the Ocarina Lyrad: Hey Rys, what are you playing?! Rys: Oh, hi Lyrad, I’m trying to play Greensleeves Lyrad: No, Rys, what instrument are you playing?! Rys: Oh this? It’s an ocarina. I found it in the Expeditionary Forces’ supply cabinet! Lyrad: Wow, Rys! It looks neat! Rys: It sure does, Lyrad. But this isn’t just any ocarina. It once belonged to a renown musician. Look, his name’s been carved into the side! Lyrad (reading the name slowly): Sid the Vicious. Who’s that, Rys? Rys: I’m glad you asked, Lyrad! Ancient lore speaks of a young, talented bard, like myself, but, unlike myself, deeply troubled. It is said that he would play this ocarina then shout abusive lyrics at his audience, causing them distress. Lyrad: Wow, Rys, that sounds pretty awful! Rys: It sure does, Lyrad. He was not the nicest bard, but it is from his example that many bards learned the art of insult. Lyrad: Wow, Rys, that’s amazing! Rys: It sure is, Lyrad! In fact, he’d named this instrument “Mockarina”. Lyrad: Mockarina? Rys, isn’t that a dance?! Rys: No, Lyrad! That’s the macarena! This is the Mockerina, owned by Sid the Vicious! Lyrad: So, that’s Sid the Vicious’ Mockarina? Rys: It sure is, Lyrad! It’s where Vicious Mockery derives its name. Lyrad: Wow, Rys! You learn something new everyday! Rys: You sure do, Lyrad! But what’s more is this ocarina, er, Mockarina is said to be imbued with magical powers. Lyrad: Wow, Rys! What kinds of magical powers?! Rys: I’m glad you asked, Lyrad! It is said that if before performing a spell, a bard properly plays the melody on the Mockarina, their opponent will find themselves at a disadvantage to overcome the spell. Lyrad: Wow, Rys! Playing the Mockerina before casting a spell puts the target at a disadvantage? Rys: That’s right, Lyrad! And, if a bard is just carrying the Mockarina, they double the damage they do when Viciously Mocking an enemy! Lyrad: Wow, Rys! That sounds amazing! Rys: It sure does, Lyrad! Lyrad: But wait?! Didn’t all magic items lose their powers when the silence orb went off in Rampart?! Rys: Great question, Lyrad! I found the Mockarina locked inside a lead box, so I bet it still has its powers.
